Gastroenterology

In a clinical cross-over study the efficacy of the UroNova coating on biliary endoprostheses in preventing encrustation was analysed. After an average indwelling time of 90 days the weight increase of the endoprostheses was measured.

The mean weight of encrustation on uncoated biliary endoprostheses was more than double as high as of endoprostheses with UroNova coating. Furthermore less discoloration and encrustation of the inner stent surface visualised after longitudinal incision were recorded.

Left: Uncoated biliary endoprosthesis after 91 days indwelling time. Complete blockage by deposits.
Right: Biliray endoprosthesis with UroNova coating after 98 days indwelling time, in the same patient. No significant encrustation or discoloration.
